To live in luxury at its best, look no further than the city of Windermere. The unspoilt sandy-bottomed lakes surround this small community of West Orange. The boat enthusiast will delight in the canal system that connects 13 lakes known as the Butler Lake of Chains.
Windermere was named after Dr. Stanley Scott, whose father bought 160 acres in this picturesque place in 1885. Dr. Scott built his house on the shore of Lake Butler, and it is believed that he named this town after the famous Lake Windermere in England.
Today, more than 2,300 people inhabit the city of Windermere, but the focus of the city is to preserve its natural history and strong community atmosphere. In fact, many of the city's streets remain unpaved to continue its commitment to keeping the untouched nature of the Lagos Chain. Windermere has been named "Tree City USA" for its commitment to a natural environment for 10 consecutive years.
